Printer Emulator
Virtual thermal & fiscal printers for Windows
Test your POS printing on a PC — no printer hardware needed.
Printer Emulator
Printer Emulator is a Windows app that pretends to be your shop's printers. You create as many virtual printers as you like — each one listens on its own port, exactly like a real network printer — and point your POS at them. When the POS prints, the paper feeds out of the on-screen machine and keeps coming until it is cut, then the finished receipt drops into a history list you can open at full printer resolution. It speaks the real protocols: ESC/POS raster for thermal receipt printers, and the fiscal RT protocols for EDit/Ditron and Epson, replying with the same handshakes the real hardware sends so the POS reports success and gets back a fiscal document number. It is built for testing receipt layouts, fiscal flows, kitchen tickets and multi-printer setups without buying or wiring up a single printer.
Developers, installers and shop owners setting up or testing POS printing
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
- A licence key for the computer you install it on
- The POS device (tablet) on the same Wi-Fi network, if you print from a tablet
- Inbound TCP ports open on the PC firewall for the printer ports you create (9100–9110 by default)
What it does
As many printers as you need
Create thermal or fiscal printers on their own ports and run them all at once — a receipt printer, a kitchen printer and a fiscal RT side by side.
Real protocols, real replies
Thermal ESC/POS raster, fiscal EDit/Ditron (XON/XOFF with an STX…ETX fiscal footer) and fiscal Epson RT (HTTP/XML). The POS gets the same answers real hardware gives, including fiscal document numbers.
Paper that behaves like paper
Paper feeds out of the machine and keeps coming across prints until a cut command or the scissor button — then the cut receipt drops into the history.
Receipt history
Cut receipts are kept in a Normal / Fiscal list. Click any one to view it at native printer resolution — exactly what the hardware would print.
Fiscal receipts reconstructed
Fiscal printers rebuild the scontrino — items, VAT departments, total, payment, change and document number — and handle X and Z reports with a running daily total.
58 mm and 80 mm
Each printer has its own paper width, and content that is too wide for the roll is flagged so you catch a wrongly-configured POS printer.
Setting it up
Install
Run the installer from the downloads page and start Nugezza Printer Emulator.
Activate
The app shows a Device Code. Send it to Nugezza and paste the licence key you get back. The key is locked to that computer.
Create a printer
Click ‘+ New printer’, give it a name, pick the type (Thermal, Fiscal EDit/Ditron or Fiscal Epson) and the paper width, and accept the suggested port.
Open the firewall
If you print from a tablet, allow the printer ports through Windows Firewall — otherwise the POS reports ‘Printer timeout’ because Windows silently drops the connection.
Point the POS at it
In the POS printer settings use the PC's IP (shown top-left in the app) and the port shown on the machine you created.
How to
Print a test receipt
- Create a thermal printer
- In the POS, add a printer with this PC's IP and that port
- Print — the paper feeds out of the machine, cuts, and lands in the Normal list
See a receipt full size
- Click any receipt in the Recent list
- It opens at native printer resolution — pixel-for-pixel what would print
Test a fiscal receipt
- Create a Fiscal RT printer matching your model family (EDit/Ditron or Epson)
- Point the POS's fiscal printer at that port
- Take a sale — the scontrino appears with a document number in the Fiscal list
Cut the paper by hand
- Click the scissor button on the machine
- Whatever is on the roll is cut and moved to the history
Change a printer
- Click the pencil on the machine
- Change the name, type, paper width or port
- Saving re-binds the listener to the new port straight away
Licensing
Licensed per computer. The app shows a Device Code; Nugezza issues a key locked to that code. Available as a 30-day trial, 1 year, or lifetime. Verification is fully offline — the app never phones home — so it keeps working with no internet. Moving to a new PC needs a new key for that machine's Device Code.
If something goes wrong
The POS says ‘Printer timeout’
The POS says the printer refused the connection
A printer did not start
Nothing appears when I print
A fiscal print is refused
The key is rejected as ‘issued for a different computer’
